Summer 2017 Outdoor Home Trends

With a blazing hot Summer upon us, clients often ask how they can make the most out of their outside spaces. Some of our most popular floor plans such as the Springer plan are made for lovers of the outdoors with features such as a large open terrace and dining area for those garden parties, and a hot tub and pool to cool down in.

So, what are some of the hottest home design trends this Summer?

FIRE PITS & BBQ AREAS

In a recent survey by the American Society of Landscape Gardeners into popular outdoor design elements, fire pits and fireplaces entered the top 10, with over 70% of those questioned putting it on their demand list. Fire pit and BBQ areas create the ideal place to gather with family and friends, whether it be enjoying a hot dog with the kids, or curling up on cooler evenings with friends.

LEDGE LOUNGERS

These curved, in-water furniture designs create the perfect balance between relaxing in the sun and keeping cool. They’re even made from UV-resistant, sustainable materials, meaning you can chill out in style for years to come.

POOL TECHNOLOGY

Integrating technology with your outdoor areas is a must-have in the modern era, but did you know you can actually control your pool features from your smartphone? From controlling the pump speed to dimming the lighting, technology can help create your perfect outdoor experience.

MULTI-LEVEL AREAS

Multi-level areas have made family-living easier than ever, by separating out the various areas of your outdoor spaces such as the pool, decking, and entertaining areas, but keeping the entire space as open as possible. It also makes for easier socializing and creates stunning views for your guests. Check out the outdoor space created in one of our recent home designs.

WATER FEATURES

Water has always been a popular feature of American gardens. From swim-up bars to hydrotherapy jets, spending time in the water outside can become the break away from life you need. Of course, traditional water features are also on the rise with elements such as waterfalls, cascade fountains and infinity pools all great for adding an authentic luxury touch.

NATURAL ROCK

Creating an oasis to spend time in the warmer months isn’t just about function. The look and feel of backyards and gardens is about creating the right flow between areas. When you have water areas, natural rock can create a seamless flow to other parts of your outdoor space, whether that be through creating a walkway to a raised part of the garden or serving as a backdrop for your waterfall feature.

Outdoor spaces have become an extension of indoor living, and spending Summer outside is the best way to enjoy the warm weather at home. Why not think about some of these ideas for your high end renovation or custom home build.
