Is this your first time building a home? It can be overwhelming to deal with the amount of information necessary for planning your new home. We pride ourselves on giving each client an enjoyable, efficient experience. Your ideas will be transformed into a freehand sketch, and we’ll help you each step of the way until the day you move in. We work from a sketch at first because, honestly, it’s easier – if you don’t like something, we’ll just erase and improve it. There’s no rushing the creative process. More importantly, we like to have an open line of clear communication with you – this helps us get things done right the first time.
When you come see us for the first time, we ask the big questions about your future home: the size, the lot, the time. We’ll send you our pricing sheets so you know exactly what to expect. We like to meet clients at their property, if they already have one. And we like to include the builder early on, if possible. We like to take things slow and plan meticulously – so that later on, the project can move quickly. If you haven’t yet got the lot, J.J. and Wes will meet you at our office. This is when you tell us about the home of your dreams. J.J. will sketch out the first draft of your home design, and it will go through several iterations until you are completely satisfied. There is no charge for these consultations.
Once you approve the initial design, and we agree on a payment schedule, the real process can begin. Our design team will refine the initial design to scale, which we’ll provide to your builder in order to get a rough estimate of the cost. We generally focus on floor plans and the front elevation because this will, in a way, set the tone for the rest of the design. We’ll meet with you again to see what changes you’d like. Wes will clean up the design, and the builder will calculate a more accurate estimate for you.
At this point, most builders generally expect 50% of the construction costs. The sketch is then transformed into a CAD version for the engineer, who will give us feedback for the final construction document, which again needs your approval. This is what will be used during the actual build. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of these documents, and we’ll finalize (“seal”) the construction documents when you’re happy with everything. Even after we’ve shaken hands, we’ll help you throughout construction. If you need something, or you have an issue with your builder, or really anything – we’re here to help.
We like to take things step-by-step, especially at the beginning. This lets first-time home owners become more comfortable with the myriad details of home design. For experienced home owners, you’ll find that we take our time with design, but we insist on open lines of communication so that you’ll know exactly how your home design is progressing. Meet the Team
If you’re used to a buttoned-up environment, that’s just not us. Our laid-back attitude grows out of our true enjoyment in working together as a team. J.J. is the first to crack jokes, and we actually like hanging out together after work. We like to think that this team dynamic matches our client relations. The team at Elite Design Group prides itself on timely, quality work and taking care of clients, with a warm touch that’s in tune with the friendly Charlotte vibe that we all know and love.
